Barossa Valley, Australia
Bright mid-crimson red
Aromatic and bright, yet exuding the style and pedigree which are hallmarks of the St Hugo label. This Grenache Shiraz Mataro blend shows lifted fruit aromas of Turkish delight and briary complexity.

Food pairing
It is ideally enjoyed with flavoursome red meats such as venison.

Fruit was primarily selected from four outstanding, low-yielding vineyard blocks displaying the intensity and luscious fruit flavours that typify the best of these varieties. Small quantities came from the Eden Valley.

Time on skins of each parcel was carefully managed to maximise varietal typicity prior to pressing, the free run and pressings combined, and the wine filled to a carefully assembled selection of French and American oak hogsheads for malolactic fermentation and further maturation. The Grenache was filled to predominantly third and fourth use barrels to introduce subtle oak complexity without detracting from its bright, juicy fruit characters. The Shiraz and Mataro parcels were filled to a mixture of new and used French and American oak barrels.

After 13 months of oak maturation, the composition of the blend was reviewed and the ratios further refined. Every barrel was carefully evaluated at blending, and only those meeting our highest quality standards were included in the final blend. The final wine was store in tank to allow integration prior to lightly filtering for bottling.

The 2015 vintage in the Barossa Valley and neighbouring Eden Valley was one of the driest, earliest and quickest in memory. The flowering period was particularly volatile, with a number of violent lightning storms. As a result, yields were below average but fruit quality was high, allowing winemakers to craft wines of exceptional colour and tannin depth.

Polished repeatedly until it's just right. This tastes exactly how it should. Jubey blackberry and raspberry with clove and sandalwood notes. Earth, fruit and power. A melt of tannin. Sweet fruit through the finish. Raisiny, almost honeyed overtones. Drastically/dangerously easy to drink.
